13 New Marys: Our Novices Receive their New Names

On November 21^st, the Feast of the Presentation of Mary, 13 novices from our province were given their new religious names.

By these new names, advocations of the Blessed Virgin Mary, they become “New Marys.”  These names are a sign of the religious consecration of whom Mary is the prototype: “Among all persons consecrated unreservedly to God, she is the first. She-the Virgin of Nazareth-is also the one most fully consecrated to God, consecrated in the most perfect way” (St. John Paul II, Redemptionis Donum, 17).

This year, for the first time, we have not only novices in our active Novitiate in Upper Marlboro, MD, but also our first three novices in our Contemplative Novitiate in Brooklyn, NY. The “name ceremony” took place in a Mass in our Contemplative House so that all could be present together.

The new names of our novices are:

• Sister Maria Lilium inter Spinas (Latin: Mary Lily among Thorns)
• Sister María Madre de la Luz Eterna (Spanish: Mary Mother of the Eternal Light)
• Sister Maria Altare Dei (Latin: Mary Altar of God)
• Sister Mary Light of Confessors
• Sister Mary Heart of the Trinity
• Sister Mary Chosen Spouse of God
• Sister María Servidora del Santísimo Sacramento (Spanish: Mary Servant of the Blessed Sacrament)
• Mary Virgin Daughter of Jerusalem
• Ma Li Ya Zhi Ai Zhi Nu (Chinese: Mary Beloved Daughter)
• María Mediadora de Misericordia (Spanish: Mary Mediator of Mercy)
• Maria Mulier Eucharistica (Latin: Mary Eucharistic Woman)
• Mariya Karun Kanya (Hindi: Mary Daughter of Mercy)
