Precious Blood Monastery

The Precious Blood Monastery

Since 1910, the Precious Blood Monastery on Fort Hamilton Parkway (Brooklyn, NY) has been the home of the Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood, a cloistered, contemplative community often referred to as the “powerhouse of prayer” for the Diocese of Brooklyn and for the world.

The Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood were founded in 1861 in Quebec, Canada by Mother Catherine Aurelia of the Precious Blood (Aurelia Caouette). Their charism is to adore and make reparation to the Blood of Christ, asking for God’s mercy on the world.

In the words of Mother Catherine: “…They will pray for the sanctification of nations,…for the zeal of the apostles of Christ who are evangelizing, for holiness of all God’s people and the increased holiness of priests called to be dispensers of the divine blood. They will labor in the tempest tossed vessel of the Church, pour out the balm of their prayer in her deep wounds and burn to give their very lives in defense of her cause.”

One Monastery, Two Communities

In 2011, the Precious Blood Sisters opened their doors to welcome the contemplative community of the Servants of the Lord. Since that time, our two communities have been happily sharing the monastery, as well as daily Holy Mass and other prayer times. However, each group follows its own particular Charism and Holy Rule.

Inside the Precious Blood Monastery

This film (2016) offers a tour of the art of the main church with explanations and history given by the cloistered sisters of both congregations: Adorers of the Precious Blood and the Servants of the Lord.  Footage includes archived images, answers to frequently asked questions, and a standing invitation for those who would visit this beautiful monastery in the middle of Brooklyn!

125th Anniversary Book

On the occasion of the 125th Anniversary of the Precious Blood Monastery, the sisters published a new edition of a book written by Msgr. Joseph Stedman, the faithful chaplain of the sisters for nearly twenty years.  It is a descriptive and illustrated book telling the “Story of the Precious Blood” (the Blood of Christ) as seen in the artwork of the Monastery’s Chapel. You can purchase a copy by sending the sisters an email: mon.edithstein@servidoras.org
