\"\"<\/a>Each religious family is brought forth by the Holy Spirit at a particular moment in the history of the Church. By God\u2019s Providence, it has fallen to\u00a0our small missionary family<\/a> to\u00a0be born in 1984 under the pontificate of Saint\u00a0John Paul the Great, whom we have always considered as our spiritual father.<\/p>

Our charism of \u201cprolonging the Incarnation\u201d and our specific aim of \u201cevangelization of culture\u201d given to our founder\u00a0Fr. Carlos Miguel Buela<\/a> have been deeply formed by the teaching and the example of John Paul II. We can\u00a0see this though the orientation of his pontificate towards the Great Jubilee of 2000, clearly proclaiming the Incarnation as the heart of history. The mystery of Christ, fully Man and fully God, coming to live among us and to redeem mankind, is the central spirituality of our religious family, thus named \u201cReligious Family of the Incarnate Word.\u201d Additionally, John Paul II\u2019s call for the New Evangelization and the \u201cinculturation\u201d of the Gospel resounds in our Constitutions and Directory of Spirituality. Taken from #5 of the\u00a0Constitutions of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matar\u00e1<\/em>:<\/p>

\u201cSpecifically, we commit all our strength to inculturate \u00a0the Gospel, that is to say, to extend the Incarnation \u00a0\u201cto all men, in the whole man, and in all of the manifestations of man,\u201d in accordance with the teachings of the Magisterium \u00a0of the Church (especially: GS 53-62, EN 20, CT 53).\u00a0In this respect, His Holiness John Paul II teaches:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThe term \u2018acculturation\u2019 or \u2018inculturization,\u2019 \u00a0may well be a neologism, but it expresses very well one of the elements of the great mystery of the Incarnation (John Paul II,\u00a0Discourse to the Pontifical Biblical Commission on Biblical Science and Magisterium of the Church<\/em>, April 24, 1979).\u201d \u201d<\/p>

John Paul II, St. Louis de Montfort, and our Fourth Marian Vow<\/strong><\/h4>

Our strong devotion to Mary, particularly manifested in our fourth vow of consecration to Mary<\/a>, is based primarily on the spirituality of and devotion promulgated by\u00a0St. Louis de Montfort<\/a>\u00a0and lived in an exemplary manner by St.\u00a0Pope John Paul II.<\/p>

In his homily on the occasion of the\u00a050th Anniversary of the canonization of St. Louis de Montfort<\/a>\u00a0in 1997, St.\u00a0Pope John Paul II outlined the main elements of his spirituality: God alone, the Incarnation, love of the Blessed Virgin Mary, fidelity to the Cross, and missionary zeal.<\/p>

St.\u00a0Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical\u00a0Redemptoris Mater<\/a><\/em>, exalts the devotion widespread by St. Louis\u00a0 de Montfort \u2013 the total consecration to Jesus through the hands of Mary \u2013 \u201cas an effective means for Christians to live faithfully their baptismal commitments.\u201d However, the late Holy Father\u2019s devotion to Mary and his debt to Montfort\u2019s legacy is even more clearly understood in his coat of arms and papal motto, as he explained in his\u00a0letter to the Montfort religious family<\/a>\u00a0in 2003:<\/p>

\u201cAs is well known, my episcopal coat of arms symbolically illustrates the Gospel text quoted above [Jn 19: 25-27]; the motto\u00a0Totus tuus<\/em>\u00a0is inspired by the teaching of St Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort (cf.\u00a0Gift and Mystery,\u00a0<\/em>pp. 42-43;\u00a0Rosarium Virginis Mariae<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0<\/em>n. 15). These two words express total belonging to Jesus through Mary: \u201cTuus totus ego sum, et omnia mea tua sunt\u201d,<\/em>\u00a0St Louis Marie wrote, and he translates his words: \u201cI am all yours, and all that I have is yours, O most loving Jesus, through Mary, your most holy Mother\u201d (Treatise on True Devotion,\u00a0<\/em>n. 233). This Saint\u2019s teaching has had a profound influence on the Marian devotion of many of the faithful and on my own life.\u201d<\/p>
