Community Santa Bárbara in Trabzon
This is the first foundation of our Institute in this country, a place that holds particular importance in the history of the Church. According to tradition, the Apostle St. Andrew evangelized these lands, which were also passed through by the Apostles Peter and Paul and is where the Apostle St. John and the Blessed Virgin Mary lived. The place where we have been invited to work is Trabzon, belonging to the Diocese of Anatolia, more precisely in the parish of Santa María de Trabzon, the only Catholic church in this city and place of the martyrdom of the Italian priest Don Andrea Santoro, murdered in said parish in in 2006, while reading the Holy Scriptures in Church. The majority of parishioners are Christian immigrants who have had to flee their countries because of their faith (Iran, Iraq, Africa), and, in addition, some young people who go there for study reasons.
