Happy Feast of St Ignatius of Loyola(1491-1556), Patron of all Spiritual Exercises! Celebrating the 300th anniversary of the canonization of St Ignatius of Loyola in 1922, Pope XI named St Ignatius as the heavenly patron of all retreats and Spiritual Exercises for all the faithful, and in 1929 he issued Mens Nostra, an encyclical “On the Promotion of the Spiritual Exercises”.
St Ignatius of Loyola wrote the Spiritual Exercises after a year of prayer in the cave at Manresa in Spain. He experienced such clarity and depth of insight through this method of prayer that it became a staple for growth in holiness for members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and those they served.
Not only do popes usually take a week-long Spiritual Exercises during Lent, but today the Spiritual Exercises continue to be increasingly available for Catholics of all walks of life. Consider taking a few days away from everything in order to pray before the new academic year and fall season gets fully underway.
IVE Priests preach the points and celebrate the daily Mass, offer time for confessions and consultations. Our sisters organize and facilitate the retreat and are also available for consultation.
