We share with you the news of the holy death of Sister Maria del Corpus Domini Valle (1971-2017), one of our contemplative sisters who celebrated her Silver Jubilee of Religious Profession in these past days on the Feast of Saint Joseph. Our first Italian vocation, she entered the convent in 1991 after meeting the IVE priests who were studying in Rome, and learning about the newly established female branch of the Religious Family of the Incarnate Word in Argentina.
She made her first profession in 1992 in Argentina and lived most of her religious life in our contemplative branch first in the monastery of Our Lady of Grace in Velletri (Italy), and later in the Monastery of Blessed Gabriella of Unity in Pontinia (Italy) where she died surrounded by her sisters earlier this week following a two-year battle with leukemia.
The following message was sent on March 22nd by our General Vicar, Mother Mary of the Sacred Heart.
Dear Religious Family,
We wish to inform you that today, 22nd of March at 12:05pm in Italy, our dear Sister Maria del Corpus Domini passed away.
This morning Fr. Tomás Tymchiy, IVE, celebrated the Holy Mass in the corridor of the room of Sr. Corpus. Together with her for this Mass were the members of the community of the Monastery, Sr. Maria Narek (who has been accompanying her as the nurse in her last days), her parents, and Mother Maria de Jesús Doliente, Provincial Superior of Italy. During the Holy Mass she was able to receive the Holy Eucharist. At the end of the Mass, Father imparted to her the sacrament of Unction of the Sick together with the plenary indulgence. After this, the community prayed together with her the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and while she was reciting for the last time “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world,” Sr. Corpus died serenely.
Yesterday, March 21, Sr. Maria del Corpus Domini celebrated her silver anniversary of religious consecration. For this reason on the previous Sunday, March 19, we had a beautiful ceremony in the Monastery with her to give thanks to God for this anniversary. Even though Sr. Corpus could not be present in the church, given that she was in very great pain and very weak, she was able to participate in the Mass from her room by a live connection through Skype. By this means she was able to renew the formula of her consecration in such a way that the people who were in the church could hear her. In addition to the many religious, a large number of people associated with the Monastery accompanied Sr. Corpus with much affection and prayers in these days. During the Holy Mass many people drew near to the confessionals to make their Confessions, something that Sr. Corpus had desired and prepared for.
It was a beautiful feast in a climate of great joy, something that Sr. Corpus especially delighted in since it was her desire to celebrate the gift of perseverance in the religious life with much joy.
These last days that Sr. Corpus spent in the Monastery were a grace to everyone, especially for the members of her community who were able to see her always very serene and happy despite the great pain and discomfort which increased day by day. It was very edifying above all to hear her speak with great naturalness about Heaven, Eternity, the Eternal Wedding Banquet with the Lamb that awaits every spouse of Christ, her desire to go there soon, etc.
She herself had asked to spend the last moments of her life in the Monastery, where she wished to die. For this reason the doctors had granted her this possibility with the assistance of a special medical aide, considering that there was no more possibility of helping her in the hospital. She only wanted to pray and to be in the company of the sisters and it was in this way that she spent her last days, offering her pains for the Religious Family. Additionally, she herself organized her funeral Mass, which, like a good liturgist, she prepared with great delicacy and care, even in the smallest details.
We give thanks to God for having given Maria del Corpus Domini to our Religious Family, for her fidelity, perseverance and for her exemplary death. We pray that her soul may already be enjoying the eternal Wedding Feast of the Lamb, as she so hoped for.
We ask for special prayer of consolation and strength for the parents and siblings of Sr. Corpus, who have also accompanied her with admirable closeness and peaceful resignation.
United in prayer,
Mary of the Sacred Heart, SSVM
