Recently our Vicar General, Mother Mary of the Sacred Heart Gaes, SSVM (USA), made a visit to the mission in Papua New Guinea. Mother Sacred Heart, originally from Maryland, served as Mistress of Novices and Provincial Superior before being called to serve as our Vicar General in Rome.
During her visit she spent time getting to know the works of the mission first hand as well as spending time with our missionary sisters there. A number of them have spent time in this Province.
Sister Maria Mater Boni Remedii Riddick, SSVM is originally from New Zealand. She spent her Postulancy, Noviciate and Juniorate here in the United States from 2010-2013 before studying in Italy. She has been in the mission in Papua for several years already!
Also, Sr. Malia Fa’e ae Koluse au Saute Lomi, SSVM who grew up in Australia of a South Pacific Oceaner family also spent some years in the United States during her initial formation. She now also serves in Papua.
The sisters in Papua New Guinea run a home for girls in need as well as conduct home visits, retreats and formation for lay catechists, and assist in medical care.
Sister Maria Sponsa Verbi Lynch, SSVM (Argentina) also spent time in our Province when she was in our mission in Canada.
In Northern Europe
A recent photo from our mission in the Hague in the Netherlands features two American sisters: Sr. Mary of the Holy Family Wolfert, SSVM (Michigan) and Mother Maria Nadiya Beznadiynech Rozak, SSVM (New Jersey). The sisters have been entrusted with caring for a chapel of Eucharistic Adoration in the downtown part of the city.
In January many American sisters were together for the Spiritual Exercises preached in English in Holland. For this occasion, both student sisters preparing to begin classes in Italy as well as missionaries stationed in Northern Europe were together!
