In honor of the Year of Consecrated Life, the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará will present a free concert “Ecce Sponsus: a Song for the Bridegroom” on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 5:00 P.M. at Holy Comforter-Saint Cyprian Church on 1357 East Capitol Street SE Washington, DC 20003.
The concert will feature an array of Gregorian and polyphonic pieces written or arranged by female religious composers throughout the centuries. These include the 9th century Byzantine contemplative Kassia (Kassiani the Hymnographer), St. Hildegard Von Bingen (1098-1179), works from the Las Huelgas Codex (c. 1300), Sr. Vittoria Aleotti (1575-1620) and Sr. Chiara Cozzolani (1601-1678). By virtue of their consecration, these women’s compositions were essentially expressions of a personal and lived encounter with Christ the Spouse.
Please join us for this unique opportunity to honor the many religious who have preceded us in the great task of loving and serving Christ with an undivided heart.
