On the weekend of March 27-29, 2015 young men and women exploring a vocation to the consecrated life as missionaries with a Marian spirituality are invited to visit our Religious Family in Washington, DC.

The gift and the mystery of a vocation can only be discovered and confirmed by prayer and a willingness to step out into unknown territory at the bidding of the Holy Spirit so as to listen and trust.  St. John Paul the Great has said:

“The experience of a vocation is unique and indescribable, and is only perceived as a gentle breeze of the clarifying touch of grace. The vocation is a breathing of the Holy Spirit, who, at the same time as he genuinely shapes our fragile human reality, shines a new light into our hearts. He instills an extraordinary power that merges our existence into the divine enterprise.” (Rome, March 17, 1982)

IVE-Discernment-Retreat-2015Discernment retreats can be a step along the way.  Sometimes participants come away with a sense that “maybe, just maybe” this could be for them, whether in our community or in another community.  Others leave peacefully convinced that they do not have a religious vocation!  And almost every year, some who come to see…later come to stay.  They have simply found their home as priests or sisters of the New Evangelization in our Religious Family.

IVE Discernment Retreat

Learn more about how to register for this opportunity to visit the seminary, hear talks and pray with the IVE priests and seminarians. The event runs from Friday 3/27 at 7:30 pm to Sunday 3/29 (Palm Sunday) at 1:30 pm (complete schedule).  Located on the Maryland side of the DC city-limits, the seminary is accessible from Reagan Airport (DCA), Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI) or via train and bus lines to Union Station, downtown DC.

SSVM “Come and See” Retreat

This year we are happy to open the doors of our convent to young women (ages 18-35) who wish to learn more about life as a missionary sister in our Religious Family.  Our event also begins Friday the 27th at 5:00 pm (arrivals later in the evening can be considered too, just not too late!) and ends Sunday the 29th at 3:00 after lunch.  The link to registration as well as videos and articles about our past Come and See retreats are also available under “Come and See Discernment Retreats.”  We look forward to meeting you!

“To ‘put out into the deep’ is to take the demands of the Gospel seriously and thoroughly: go, sell what you possess (Mt 19:21). It is the longing of our restless heart, yearning to possess the Infinite. It is the impetus of the saints and martyrs who gave everything for God.”
