From coast to coast, our Province has been very busy these past two weeks!  Fittingly on the feast of St. John Bosco (1815-1888), friend of youth and patron of our oratories around the world, we can share some photos and news of our work with young people in the causes of holiness and defense of life.

2nd Youth Festival in Wachula, Florida

In the heart of Florida’s orange groves, there is a rural town of workers and their families (with some seasonal snowbirds) which has again been the scene of the southern IVE Youth Festival.  While it seems geographically opposite to say so, Wachula arguable stands “at the periphery” of the Diocese of Venice whose main population is strung along the Gulf Coast on sandy beaches.  This year for the second time in a row (see 2014 event) the IVE priests and SSVM sisters who form the permanent mission team have been joined by seminarians and sisters in formation in order to host a bi-lingual Youth Festival for the local teenagers.

The event included formative talks, modern apologetics, times of prayer, opportunities for confession, and Holy Mass.  Also integral to the event, youth had times to rejoice sports, games and songs in the spirit of holy joy (thank you, St. John Bosco for teaching us and interceding for us!).  We were also blessed to have the presence of Bishop Frank J. Dewane, bishop of the Diocese of Venice.  May all the youth be strengthened in their resolutions for holiness by the life of the sacraments and the times of fraternal charity.

West Coast Walk for Life: San Francisco’s Largest Pro-Life Event to Date

Our Religious Family on the West Coast once more joined the growing movement of the Walk for Life in San Francisco.  Reports from secular news sources recognized the number of participants to be over 50,000 and cited the wide range of diverse groups involved in protesting Roe vs. Wade.

For many years our Religious Family serving at the Shrine of Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara has been a part of the Walk for Life.  Seeing the event grow every year is a true testimony that it is possible to build the “civilization of love” and the “culture of death” that St. John Paul the Great taught us to work for in our times.

If you have never been to a walk or march for life, maybe 2016 will be your chance to join those who stand for life.  Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Unborn and Queen of the Americas, pray for us!
