We recently enjoyed a workshop on “Basics of Art Appreciation: Foundations of Color and Composition” at the Juniorate in Washington. The two presenting sisters discussed the elements that contribute to visual art: chiaroscuro, the color wheel, patterns of contrast and complimentary.
They did demonstrations of various techniques and how to care for your brushes, etc. Finally, they led us in a drawing exercise focused to train the eye.
New Catholic Culture Page Dedicated to the “Way of Beauty”
This simple event speaks to a wider interest and commitment to beauty in the charism of our Religious Family. Reflecting on the via pulchritudinis (“way of beauty”) over time, we now share a Catholic Culture page entitled: “Via Pulchritudinis: Finding God through Beauty.” The resource page includes many links to Vatican documents as well as videos and photo galleries of events of our Religious Family related to the promotion of beauty as an encounter with God. Enjoy!
