Together with the whole Church, our Religious Family joyfully celebrates the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross today, September 14th. In this feast the Church invites us to celebrate Jesus Christ’s definitive triumph over sin and death through His sacrifice on the Cross, and calls us all in a special way to unite our own sufferings and difficulties to our Savior’s Passion.
We began our celebration on Friday, September 13th with Holy Mass celebrated by His Eminence Donald Cardinal Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington who was accompanied by His Eminence Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington. During the Mass, Sister Maria Virgo Offerens Rebeck, Sister Mary of Ephesus Baird, Sister Marie de Prouille Klobucher, and Sister María Parousía Clemens professed their perpetual vows consecrating their entire lives to follow Jesus, the Incarnate Word, in His poverty, chastity and obedience, all through our fourth vow of Marian slavery of love.
Following a festive celebration with family and friends at St. John Baptiste de la Salle parish in Chillum, Maryland, sisters from the whole Province gathered to sing the Office of Readings, with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
Four more sisters from the same novitiate class professed their final vows on this Feast Day: two in Santa Clara, CA, one in Peru and one in Holland. These newly professed sisters are currently serving in missions in the United States, France, Canada, Peru, Philippines, and Holland.
We give thanks to God for all of His abundant graces to our Institute, here in this Province and throughout the world, and most especially for the great gift of our vocations to be Spouses of Christ Crucified.
