The Reineckers first gave a talk and workshop at the IVE Mission in Santa Rosa, a rural area in the Northwest Territory of Guyana. On March 24, they spoke to over 85 high school students along with their teachers in the morning, and in the afternoon they gave the formal workshop presentation to over 100 participants. Among those in attendance was a Cuban doctor who was very interested and even asked for the videos in order to show at the waiting room in the public hospital in Moruka. There were also several couples who came back to the parish later on to talk more with Jeanette about being trained to educate others about Natural Family Planning.
The Reineckers returned by speedboat through the jungle to the larger town of Charity on the Essequibo Coast early on March 25. We were glad to have them back with us just in time for the Mass of the Solemnity of the Annunciation and the day’s celebration with the priests, the sisters and some families from the parish spending a day at the lake.
On Saturday, March 26, Jeanette and Tom presented the Billings Method and the general idea of Natural Family Planning to couples in Georgetown, Guyana’s large urban capitol. The workshop was held at the Catholic Life Centre, with a lot of help from Marriage Encounter. His Excellency Bishop Francis Alleyne, OSB, Bishop of Guyana, was present during the whole day’s workshop, and Fr. Javier Correa Llano, IVE, Mother Joy of Martyrs, and Sister Espejo de la Paciencia also came to Georgetown for the event. Tom and Jeanette were able to meet with a smaller group of people who showed great interest in the topic, and who are willing to teach others on a local level.
We are very grateful to the Reineckers for having traveled so far to carry out this apostolate. We give thanks to God for being able to hold this workshop which teaches about the sanctity of Marriage and family life. May God bring up from our mission and from all of our missions many holy marriages and families so the Gospel of Life may be spread to all peoples.
