“You are a priest forever”
“Without the Sacrament of Holy Orders, we would not have the Lord. Who put him there in that tabernacle? The priest. Who welcomed your soul at the beginning of your life? The priest. Who feeds your soul and gives it strength for its journey? The priest. Who will prepare it to appear before God, bathing it one last time in the blood of Jesus Christ? The priest, always the priest. And if this soul should happen to die [as a result of sin], who will raise it up, who will restore its calm and peace? Again, the priest… After God, the priest is everything! … Only in heaven will he fully realize what he is.” -St. John Marie Vianney
As this Year for Priests draws to a close, our Religious Family celebrated with great joy the ordination to the priesthood of four deacons and diaconate of one seminarian of the Institute of the Incarnate Word on Friday, June 4. His Excellency Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, presided over the Mass of Ordination at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immmaculate Conception. Fr. Gustavo Nieto, the Provincal Superior, concelebrated the Holy Mass along with more than 30 priests, religious as well as diocesan.
During the Holy Mass, four deacons were ordained priests: Fr. Rafael Fuentes, Fr. Alex Pérez, Fr. Pedro Torres, and Fr. Miguel Zavala; and seminarian Gerardus Hauwert Jr. was ordained to the diaconate. These men had the special grace to receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders during the Year for Priests, which concludes on June 11, 2010, the Solemnity of the Sacred Jesus. May they be priests forever according to the Heart of Christ.
