There is reason for rejoicing at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Charity, Guyana. On Sunday, December 6, 2009, ten children received their First Communion during a Mass celebrated in honor of our Patron Saint, Francis Xavier, whose feast falls on December 3. Father Oscar Barazza, IVE, presided at the Mass together with concelebrants Fr. Javier Correa Llano, IVE and Fr. Humberto Villa, IVE.
Over 250 faithful traveled from their communities along Pomeroon River and the Essequibo Coast for this wonderful occasion. The children were well prepared and very happy to receive Jesus into their hearts for the first time.
After the Mass, there was a lunch and cultural presentation in which members from each of the communities participated. The atmosphere was one of great joy and enthusiasm. We are reminded that the Sacraments are the life of the Church and we give thanks to God for this great gift He has bestowed on St. Francis Xavier Parish.
